Triathlon Newb

Well, I’ve been saying to myself for over a year now and it’s time to put the money where my mouth is.  Actually, money’s kinda dirty, so I shouldn’t be doing that.  But my friend (James) and I are entering the Falmouth Triathlon on July 20th in scenic Cape Cod.

This triathlon is the sprint type, which means it’s shorter than a regular triathlon.  The Falmouth competition consists of a 1/3 mile ocean swim, followed by a 9-mile bike ride along the Cape, and finally ending with a 3.1 mile run.  I’m excited because it will be a huge test for myself physically and mentally.  Here’s a youtube video someone posted from a previous year:

So in preparation for this event, I’m gonna try to stick to this training schedule during the month of May:

  • Mon - Swim (Hard)
  • Tue -Bike (Hard), Strength Training
  • Wed - Run (Moderate)
  • Thu - Swim (Moderate)
  • Fri - Bike (Moderate)
  • Sat - Run (Hard), Strength Training
  • Sun is for resting, hooray!

Wish me luck.

Edit: Time Out Productions, the company that does the triathlon, just cashed in my registration check.  So I’m officially in!

That is an intense schedule. Be careful of your knee when running, run on the grass if you can.

    Hi Mo!

    Good luck with the triathlon!

I actually first dropped by your blog I think …1-2 years ago. Ever since then, I’d suddenly think about your blog every now and then and drop by. I have to say, I like the new site! And also the other ones too of course.

I’m also an engineer. Or should I say engineering student. And actually, in a non-traditional field. Biomedical Engineering to be exact. Still, I find your blogs about life, books, design, food all very interesting.

well, keep it up and again, good luck! I hope to do a triathlon some day. Some day =)

I like how your schedule has “hard” and “moderate” instead of the number of miles. so how do you determine hard and moderate? and where are the easy days??

Yo mo, good luck with your triathlon. Hopefully it will be less debilitating on your knees, then the game of basketball has been. Good luck.
