Big fan of NYPL
Yup, I’m a big HUGE fan of New York Public Library (NYPL). When I used to live in Boston, I was a huge fan of the Minuteman Library Network (MLN). I’m just a huge fan of libraries in general. It was about 4 years ago that I gave up the practice of buying books. What’s the point of owning your own book? 99% of the books you read ends up collecting dust on the shelf after being read once. And the prices of books are ridiculous, at least $20 a pop at your local Barnes & Nobles. What about all the ink and paper that are used for book creation? How about all that extra weight when you relocate? Do people really need to show off their stacks and stacks of books at home to stroke their egos?
Sharing is a virtue that has been long forgotten. Library is a place where books are shared free of charge. It is a place where I find inspiration and knowledge that fill my pits of curiosity and imagination. It is where I find comfort knowing that I can always escape into a fictional world or learn something new. I truly hope that where ever I live in the future, there will be an amazing library nearby.
NYPL recently ran a Keep Your Library Open campaign, and it was successful. They were able to get the message across to the politicians that the Library is an amazing establishment. I’m glad.
